Saudi Medical Team Separates Nigerian Conjoined Twins

The General Supervisor of KSrelief center, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah, confirmed that the health of the Nigerian Conjoined twins who were brought for separation, is stable.  The operation took 16 and a half hours at King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children.

He also added that the twins are still in intensive care. In addition, they are receiving intravenous nutrition and the necessary medications to ensure the stability of their condition. However, all medical indicators for the twins are reassuring.

He pointed out that the treating medical team is carefully monitoring the health status of the twins in the pediatric intensive care unit. Furthermore, he declared that twins need close supervision for approximately ten days to two weeks. After that,  their condition will be evaluated to move from intensive care to the children’s ward.

The parents of the Nigerian twins, Hassana and Huseina, expressed their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

A medical team in Saudi Arabia has successfully separated conjoined Nigerian twins, Hassana and Huseina. The Saudi Arabian embassy in Nigeria announced in a statement on Friday.

The procedure, which began on Thursday morning, marked the culmination of meticulous planning and execution by a dedicated team of medical professionals. The twins, who arrived in Riyadh on October 31, 2023, underwent comprehensive examinations that revealed shared areas in the lower abdomen.

This surgical milestone marked the 60th operation undertaken by the Saudi program for separating Siamese twins. This  program has provided care for 135 conjoined twins from 25 countries over the past 34 years.

Furthermore, The successful separation of Hassana and Huseina exemplifies the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing medical science and extending compassionate healthcare on a global scale.
