Saudi Film Nights Illuminate India’s Cinemas: A Cultural Milestone

The Saudi Film Commission, in partnership with India’s Dome Entertainment, has launched Saudi Film Nights across Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. This initiative marks Saudi Arabia’s cinematic debut in India, following successful screenings in Morocco, Australia, and China.

The event features a selection of Saudi films, including short films like Mashnia’s Life by Saad Tahaitah and The Edge by Ahmed Alqithmi. Feature films such as Slave by Mansour Assad and Fever Dream by Faris Godus will also captivate audiences. Post-screening discussions with filmmakers will offer insights into the creative processes and cultural narratives behind these works.

Strengthening Cinematic and Cultural Ties

Mohomed Morani and Mazhar Nadiadwala, founders of Dome Entertainment, emphasized the collaboration’s potential to enrich both industries. They highlighted how this partnership opens doors for future projects and fosters mutual growth. The Saudi Film Commission aims to promote Saudi films globally, supporting filmmakers and nurturing a thriving cinematic culture within the Kingdom.

This is not the Saudi Film Commission’s first venture in India. In November 2024, the commission participated in the 18th edition of Film Bazaar in Goa. The event featured a pavilion showcasing Saudi cinema’s achievements and hosted a session titled Saudi Films in Production.

A Global Cinematic Journey

The Saudi Film Nights initiative has already made waves internationally. In October 2024, the event debuted in China, attracting over 1,000 participants and receiving praise from Saudi Ambassador Abdulrahman Al-Harbi. Plans are underway for a China Film Week in Saudi Arabia in 2025, further deepening cultural ties.

Since the reopening of cinemas in Saudi Arabia in 2018, the industry has grown exponentially. In 2023, Saudi theaters generated over SR846 million in revenue, selling 17.5 million tickets. The Saudi Film Nights initiative reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and global collaboration.

This landmark event not only showcases Saudi Arabia’s cinematic talent but also bridges cultural gaps, fostering a deeper understanding between nations.
