2024 Paris Olympics kicked off yesterday outside of a stadium for the first time in the Olympic history. Approximately 7,000 athletes floated down the Seine River on 85 boats.
The opening ceremony commenced at the Austerlitz Bridge and travels 3.7 miles down the river, landing at the Trocadéro near the Eiffel Tower.
Ten athletes are currently representing Saudi Arabia in the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, Paris 2024.
Mashael Al-Ayed, 17, will be the first Saudi athlete to compete, taking to the pool for the 200 meters freestyle swimming event on July 28.
The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) revealed that Al-Ayed is currently ramping up preparations for tomorrow’s competition.

Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of (SOPC), and his deputy, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz, attended the opening ceremony.
Ramzy Al-Duhami, the Saudi show jumping team player, and his colleague, the Saudi Taekwondo champion Dunya Aboutaleb, raised the Saudi flag on the Saudi boat at the opening ceremony.
“I aspire to perform at a level that reflects the support and attention given to sports in the Kingdom,” Dunya Aboutaleb said.
The Saudi athletes’ uniform has captured the attention of the international audience reflecting Saudi Arabia’s commitment to showcase its heritage and traditions.
Saudi designer Alia Al-Salmi has selectively featured traditional men’s thobes and bishts and for women. She designed brightly patterned thobe al-nashal.
