Saudi Aramco Teams Up with Microsoft for AI-Driven Industrial Revolution

Saudi Aramco and Microsoft signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to accelerate industrial artificial intelligence adoption and digital talent transformation. This strategic partnership seeks to enhance digital capabilities and strengthen the national workforce within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Aramco aims to modernize the energy sector by creating a secure, intelligent, and collaborative digital ecosystem for its global operations.

“Aramco is driving the energy sector’s digital transformation by creating a secure, intelligent and collaborative digital ecosystem. In partnership with Microsoft, we seek to further scale cutting-edge digital and AI solutions in that sector to achieve efficiency and innovation, without compromising the highest standards of security and governance,” said Ahmad O. Al-Khowaiter, Aramco Executive Vice President of Technology & Innovation.

Consequently, the company plans to build industrial solutions on Microsoft Azure to elevate global competitiveness and establish new technology-enabled energy systems.

Ensuring Digital Sovereignty

The agreement prioritizes digital sovereignty and data residency to meet rigorous national requirements for secure and localized data storage. Both leaders will discuss streamlining digital frameworks that support Aramco’s vast infrastructure while ensuring the highest standards of trusted governance.

“This marks the next step in our long-standing collaboration with Aramco, exploring how industrial AI can move from pilots into core operations to improve efficiency and resilience at scale. Our focus is on building strong foundations – sovereign-ready digital infrastructure, trusted governance, and the skills needed for responsible industrial AI adoption,” said Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft.

Furthermore, the companies will explore a global marketplace for innovative AI solutions to promote Saudi expertise within the international industry.

“As a global industry leader, Aramco has the opportunity to set a reference for large-scale, responsible industrial AI transformation aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” added Smith.

Finally, the partners will launch programs to accelerate technical skills development in cybersecurity, AI engineering, and data governance for Saudi citizens. These initiatives build on Microsoft’s existing national impact, which has already trained thousands of learners across various cloud and data programs.
