Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, is preparing to host the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development on April 28 and 29, 2024, under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The Special Meeting will convene over 1000 global leaders, including heads of state, government officials and executives from the public and private sectors, in addition to international organizations, academic institutions, and non-government organizations (NGOs) to discuss the most pressing global development issues and address shared challenges.
The WEF Special Meeting will hold sessions, panel discussions, and workshops, to encourage productive dialogues aiming to enhance global collaboration and promote collective international action to come up with sustainable solutions amid the growing social and economic inequalities.
The Special Meeting pays attention to 3 main themes: Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development. Discussions on Global Collaboration will explore how to address current geopolitical challenges, while trying to foster comprehensive dialogues between the Global South and North.
The Growth dialogues will focus on examining how trends of transformation, innovation and economic policymaking take part in creating inclusive growth models through new investment frameworks, while working to find solutions to the increasing inequalities between the developed and developing economies.
Discussions on the third theme, Energy for Development, will focus on the need to achieve a net-zero future through an inclusive global energy transition.
The Special Meeting reflects the continuous cooperation between the Kingdom and the World Economic Forum and leverages Saudi Arabia’s active participation and contributions at the WEF’s annual meetings held in Davos, Switzerland, each year.
The choice of Riyadh to host the WEF Special Meeting reflects Saudi Arabia’s global standing and its role in enhancing international cooperation.
