The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a firm statement on Thursday condemning Iran’s attempts to target Turkey and Azerbaijan, with Saudi officials describing the Islamic Republic’s recent actions as entirely unjustifiable and dangerous for regional stability.
The Ministry highlighted that these actions reflect a broader, aggressive approach toward neighboring states. This behavior undermines diplomatic efforts and threatens the peace of the entire Middle East.
“The Kingdom stresses that these criminal attempts against the two countries, and Iran’s repeated hostile behavior toward the states of the region, reveal an aggressive approach that cannot be justified under any circumstances,” the ministry stated.
Furthermore, the Saudi government believes these actions openly disregard established international frameworks. Officials warned that such provocations push the region toward a dangerous and unnecessary escalation.
“This behavior clearly violates international laws, norms, and the principles of good neighborliness, and pushes the region toward further escalation,” the statement added.
Solidarity with Regional Allies
Saudi Arabia affirmed its total support for the governments and citizens of both Turkey and Azerbaijan. The Kingdom maintains that every nation possesses an inherent right to defend its sovereign territory and its people.
According to the ministry, “the Kingdom affirms its full solidarity with Turkey and Azerbaijan, both government and people, and stresses the right of the two countries to protect their security, airspace, territorial integrity, and citizens.”
The statement also praised the restraint shown by the targeted nations. Saudi Arabia continues to value efforts that prioritize regional security and prevent the spread of conflict.
Reports confirmed that at least two Iranian drones crossed into the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhichevan on Thursday morning. Local authorities reported that the subsequent attack wounded two people during the breach of Azerbaijani airspace.
Meanwhile, Turkey successfully intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Iran on Wednesday using NATO air defense systems. This incident marks the first time the alliance has directly faced fire during the current regional conflict.
While the specific target of the missile remains unknown, NATO officials responded with a strong message of unity, with a spokesperson confirming that the defense bloc stands firmly with Turkey against these external threats.
