Saudi Arabia Participates in Seafood Expo Global in Spain

Saudi Arabia has concluded today its participation in the 30th edition of the Seafood Expo Global, in Barcelona, Spain, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Kingdom participated in the largest-ever edition of the exhibition, held from April 23 to 25, with a total of 2,244 companies from 87 countries. This participation came as an initiative from the National Fisheries Development Program designed to enhance the sustainable economic role of the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

Aiming at taking advantage from this global platform where the seafood industry meets, Saudi Arabia has engaged with global investors and entities through its pavilion. The exhibition provided the Kingdom with an interactive platform to enhance its international presence in the seafood industry. Saudi Participants managed to showcase the quality of Saudi aquaculture products and unwavering support to seafood business.

Abdulmajeed Al-Shahri, the Corporate Communications and Partnerships Director at the Program, noted that the program focuses on attracting more investment in the fisheries sector, contributing to diversifying the economic sector.

According to Saudi Vision 2030, the Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture (MEWA) is committed to producing 600 thousand mt of fisheries products by 2030. Furthermore, it is expected to attract over $4 billion in foreign and local investment. Over the last year, MEWA has been working on developing 16 fishing ports in coastal areas to boost marine catch production, increase local fishermen, and improve national food security.

It is noteworthy that fish production in Saudi Arabia increased significantly in 2023, hitting 214.6 thousand tons, up from 119 thousand tons in 2022.
