Saudi Arabia Participates in Ocean Action Event in Costa Rica

The Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Member of the Cabinet, and Climate Envoy, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, headed Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the “High Level Event on Ocean Action: Immersed in Change,” reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Held in San Jose, Costa Rica, the event discusses the best practices and successful experiences related to ocean governance and health. It also aims to highlight the most important topics related to international action for the oceans.

The event, which is taking place on June 7-8, 2024, stresses the need to take actions to address challenges facing oceans, including climate change, the loss of biodiversity and pollution. Moreover, it underscores the importance of preserving oceans.

The “High Level Event on Ocean Action: Immersed in Change” is holding 8 international panels featuring leaders from various fields. These panels aim to display concrete examples of best practices to promote the sustainable use of resources.

The eight panels discuss fishing resources; fight against ghost fishing gear; blue economy; satellite technology for ocean conservation and sustainable use; promoting global access to ocean cleanup technologies; scientific developments to address marine plastic pollution; effective implementation of global agreements; and mobilization of necessary and available resources and financial mechanisms for effective ocean health and governance.
