Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education has announced that university students can now pursue dual specialisations simultaneously. This initiative marks a major step in modernising higher education in the Kingdom.
The decision supports Vision 2030 by equipping students with diverse skills. It aligns with global labour market demands and provides students with flexibility to pursue their academic goals.
The initiative includes science, technology, humanities, and business fields. Universities will offer guidance and support to students managing dual specialisations. Specialised programs will help balance academic schedules.
Empowering Students for Success
“This initiative empowers students to acquire a wide range of skills,” said the Ministry. It enhances competitiveness in local and international job markets.
To implement this, Saudi universities will offer academic counseling and planning resources. The program will begin in the next academic semester, with high enrollment expected across disciplines.
Positive Reception from Students and Parents
The move has received widespread approval from students and parents. Many see it as an opportunity to expand educational horizons and prepare for new career opportunities.
The announcement follows a recent change at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). The university now allows students with bachelor’s degrees to apply directly for PhD programs. This eliminates the traditional master’s degree requirement, expediting students’ research journeys.
KFUPM’s new program aims to speed up doctoral studies, allowing students to engage in advanced research sooner. This aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by addressing contemporary challenges through innovation.
