Saudi Arabia in Green: Flag Day Sparks Joy Across Kingdom and Abroad

Saudi Arabia celebrated Flag Day on Wednesday 11 March with vibrant displays and special events across the Kingdom and abroad, as Citizens and residents alike witnessed public spaces transform into a magnificent sea of green throughout the nation.

King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh opened a new art exhibition titled “In Love with Green” on Wednesday. The Saudi Art Association collaborated on this event featuring 20 fine art paintings inspired by the Saudi flag. Director General Bandar Al-Mubarak and board chair Hanaa Al-Shibly officially opened the exhibition together. Visitors can explore the library’s services branch and reading halls on Khurais Road from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The current flag design, adopted in 1937, features the Shahada and a sword symbolizing justice and safety. King Abdulaziz Al-Saud unified the Kingdom under this powerful emblem representing unity and sovereignty.

Nationwide Displays of Patriotism

Al-Baha decorated government buildings, squares and main roads with green lighting and national flags. Makkah residents celebrated the annual show of pride and belonging against a stunning green backdrop. Tabuk authorities installed more than 7,000 flags along roads, squares and bridges throughout the region. The city’s landmarks and tunnels glowed with green and white lights during the celebrations. Jazan hoisted more than 10,000 Saudi flags while Souk Al-Awalin prepared special events and performances.

Diplomatic Missions Honor the Flag

The Saudi Embassy in Egypt also joined the festivities by adorning its headquarters in Cairo with the national colors. This diplomatic gesture emphasizes the historical importance of March 11 as a day of sovereignty, strength, and national identity.

The embassy staff reaffirmed the enduring meanings of the flag, which has featured the Shahada and sword since 1937. Because the flag symbolizes justice and safety, Saudi missions abroad continue to highlight these core values to the world. Ultimately, these global celebrations prove that the Saudi flag remains a powerful emblem of the state’s rich, unified history.
