Saudi Arabia appoints 1st female undersecretary of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs

Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif Al-Sheikh, Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, announced an administrative order today appointing Dr. Laila bint Hamad Al-Qassem as Undersecretary for Planning and Digital Transformation for a year.

Dr. Laila is the first female undersecretary at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs since its inception in a qualitative leap toward empowering women to work in the Islamic affairs sector.

Al-Sheikh had previously allocated the Department of Governance, which is attached to his office, to Dr. Laila Al-Qasim in the context of increasing the Ministry’s administrative work, improving the quality of service offered to beneficiaries, and enhancing the concept of openness.

In line with the Kingdom’s 2030 vision, the Minister’s decision today is part of his efforts to increase the participation of women in leadership positions and tasks across the ministry’s many sectors and agencies.

The Ministry is concerned about the importance of utilizing Saudi women’s distinctive role in government sectors and profiting from their contributions to the development and the achievement of the Ministry’s goals.
