Opening of Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit

Prince Abdullah bin Bandar inaugurated; The Minister of National Guard, today, Tuesday, the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit for the year 2021, under the auspices of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KIMARK) for Health Affairs at the Ministry of National Guard is organizing the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit by default, in cooperation with King Saud University for Health Sciences.

The Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit will be held from the 7th to the 9th of Safar, corresponding to “14-16 September”, which will discuss 9 axes, the most prominent of which are;

Development and manufacture of biological treatments Vaccine industries, with the participation of more than 50 researchers and technology leaders in the industry and pharmaceutical companies

In this context, Dr. Saleh Al-Uhaidib Director of the Saudi Biobank revealed, that the biotechnology that will be addressed by more than 50 international speakers at the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit is the use of living organisms.

He said: This technology will mostly be bacteria or viruses and biological materials in order to manufacture products whose purpose is to benefit humans.

He cited a number of famous examples, including, “Environmental pollution that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico when the largest oil spill in history occurred and resulted in great pollution. harmful to the environment.”

Al-Uhaidib pointed out that the technology is new compared to other technologies, and will be applied in the near future in some cases.

He pointed out that the same technology was applied in agriculture by using a technique called genetic modification and the production of the so-called “genetic”, indicating that it is a system that produces crops that are resistant to diseases, drought, salt water and insects, and has an economic return and an increase in production in addition to reducing the use of pesticides.

He valued the importance of the conference outcomes, which will contribute to the establishment of a city specialized in biotechnology in Riyadh, and the Kingdom is scheduled to work on localizing the industry, which will yield in the future an economic return and an increase in the number of jobs.

The Director of the Saudi Biobank stressed the importance of drug security revealed by the novel coronavirus pandemic, and the need for countries to double manufacturing medicines in order to protect their societies.
