Research from Jeddah University Suggests EMDR Treatment for PTSD Patients

After reviewing the results of previous studies, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at Jeddah University Dr. Areej Al-Mihdhar published research that suggests Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as an effective treatment for cases of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Al-Mihdhar said that the research looks at EMDR as a type of treatment that helps alleviate the symptoms of many other accompanying psychological disorders, adding that the study is the first systematic scientific review in Arabic on the treatment of trauma through EMDR available in the Saudi Digital Library.

“The study highlights the latest research findings on the efficacy of EMDR treatment in alleviating symptoms of PTSD, which develop after exposure to an extremely painful experience, making the patient’s mind incapable of integrating emotional responses with the experience,” Al-Mihdhar said.

According to the study, EMDR treatment can reduce pain and anxiety and improve mood and sleep quality for PTSD patients
