The lights of the Red Sea International Film Festival will return to Jeddah in the fourth quarter of 2027, following the postponement of its upcoming edition, the Red Sea Film Foundation announced.
Making room for a bigger return
By taking this decision, the festival is giving itself more time following a detailed assessment of the festival’s timing and the logistical demands required to host an event of its international scale.
“As we look ahead to our return to Historic Jeddah, the Red Sea Film Foundation’s work continues year-round through its programs, initiatives and support for filmmakers and the wider film community,” the organization said on social media.
The festival’s sixth edition was initially scheduled for December 2026, although the foundation has yet to unveil the exact date for its 2027 return.
Historic Jeddah keeps the spotlight
While the festival’s next edition has moved to 2027, its presence in Historic Jeddah will continue throughout the year.
Starting this November, the foundation will launch year-round programming at Culture Square, featuring exclusive screenings, cultural events and specialized workshops for film lovers and industry professionals.
Remarkably, the initiative builds on the momentum of the festival’s 2025 edition, which transformed Historic Jeddah into a gathering point for global cinema names, including Dakota Johnson, Uma Thurman, Ana de Armas, Queen Latifah and Vin Diesel to Historic Jeddah.
A growing global industry presence
The festival has rapidly reinforced its international industry credentials. Acclaimed filmmaker Sean Baker served as jury president in the last edition, while the Red Sea Souk welcomed senior executives from Netflix, Amazon, Disney and MBC.
Moreover, the Cultural Development Fund introduced its pioneering cultural-financing programs to the audience of the Red Sea Souk, solidifying its strong presence in the festival market.
Through flexible financing solutions supported with competitive advantages, the fund’s programs seek to further empower creative enterprises.
From film development and production to distribution, the fund supports cinematic works from scratch. Therefore, it provides a fully integrated cinematic ecosystem capable of competing at both local and international levels.
Since its launch in 2019, the festival has evolved across Saudi Arabia’s expanding cinema industry, providing a vital platform for local talent and strengthening international industry connections.
Exact dates for the 2027 edition are expected to be announced soon.
