Pleiades–Moon Conjunction: Traditional Herald of Spring

The skies over the Kingdom last night featured the conjunction of the Pleiades star cluster with the Moon—an astronomical event known in Arab heritage as the “Seventh Qiran.” Traditionally, this occurrence serves as a seasonal sign marking the approach of spring, along with its shifting weather patterns and signs of renewal and fertility.

Mohammed Al-Hazimi, a member of the Astronomy and Space Club, explained that the Seventh Qiran signals improving weather conditions and the arrival of milder temperatures. He also noted that February 23 marks the beginning of this period, which Bedouin communities have long regarded as an indication of spring’s onset.
