Yemen Coast Guard reported on Saturday that unidentified armed assailants seized the oil tanker M/T EUREKA off the coast of Shabwa Governorate, according to Reuters.
Those armed men have boarded the vessel, taken control, and redirected its course into the Gulf of Aden, toward waters off Somalia.
They “boarded, took control of it, then steered it… in the direction of the Somali coast.”
The guard also noted that the vessel’s position had been identified.
Currently, efforts are underway to closely track its movements, launch recovery operations, and secure the safe return of both the tanker and its crew.
Earlier on Saturday, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported a maritime incident nearly 84 nautical miles southwest of Al Mukalla.
