OIC stresses the importance of launching wide-scale dialogue between the Afghan parties

The organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stressed the importance of starting a broad-based dialogue between all parties and representatives of the Afghan people to achieve lasting peace, stability, and development.

This came in a speech delivered on her behalf by the Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Khalil Hashemi, before the emergency session of the Human Rights Council.

He called on all parties in Afghanistan to exercise restraint, uphold the rights of all Afghans, and fulfill their obligations under international human rights and humanitarian law, expressing concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and the increase in the influx of displaced people and refugees.

Hashemi indicated that international assistance will be crucial to creating a conducive environment to achieve the aspirations of all segments of the Afghan people in peace, security, stability, development, and dignity, stressing that OIC member states and Islamic financial institutions are working to intensify their efforts to meet the humanitarian needs in Afghanistan.
