Medina Gov. Unveils 2nd Phase of Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport Expansion
His Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Medina Region and Chairman of the Region’s Development Authority, officially inaugurated the second phase of the development and expansion initiative at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport. This ambitious project aims to bolster the airport’s capacity to accommodate 17 million passengers by the conclusion of 2027, with a substantial investment totaling SAR 1.2 billion.

The project’s comprehensive scope encompasses a doubling of the current capacity, presently set at 8 million passengers annually. This entails the expansion of the international flight passenger terminal, thereby increasing its capacity to serve 12 million passengers annually. Additionally, the endeavor involves the construction of a new passenger terminal dedicated to domestic flights, designed to handle 3.5 million passengers annually. To further augment capacity, the existing passenger terminal will undergo refurbishment, providing reserve capacity for international flights and accommodating approximately 1.5 million passengers annually. Moreover, an administrative office building will be erected to cater to the needs of airport stakeholders.

His Highness Prince Abdulaziz graced the signing ceremony of the expansion contract for Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport, which saw the participation of Dr. Ibrahim S. Al-Rajhi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Taiba Airports Development Company, and Dr. Mustafa Sani Sener, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAV Construction.

Furthermore, the Governor of Medina presided over the signing ceremony of an agreement between Saudi Arabian Airlines and Taiba Airports Operation Company aimed at expanding operational capabilities to and from the airport. This strategic partnership seeks to bolster connectivity between Medina and cities worldwide. It aims to facilitate a twofold increase in visitation rates amidst ongoing development and enrichment endeavors in the region. The agreement also aligns with the comprehensive fleet update and development program slated for the coming years, aimed at enhancing both ground and air travel experiences by the latest aviation industry standards. These initiatives underscore the national carrier’s commitment to realizing the objectives outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, while also paving the way for the seamless hosting of 30 million pilgrims by 2030.
