Makkah Launches ‘Safe Heart Zone’ for Rapid Cardiac Care at Grand Mosque

The Makkah Health Cluster has established the “Safe Heart Zone” at the Grand Mosque, enhancing cardiac emergency responses. This initiative, fully operational under King Abdullah Medical City, aims to provide immediate medical intervention for heart attack cases. The project aligns with the Health Sector Transformation Program, part of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to improve healthcare services for Umrah pilgrims and visitors.

The project features ten dedicated cardiac intensive care beds and a specialized medical team of thirty highly qualified healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the facility delivers interventional cardiology services through a mobile catheterization laboratory strategically located at the nearby Al-Haram Hospital. The center provides advanced mechanical support for critical cases, including life-saving ECMO devices, cardiac stents, and essential specialized medications.

Streamlining the Path to Recovery

Medical staff strictly apply approved clinical pathways for post-catheterization care to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and recovery. Consequently, the initiative significantly improves outcomes for heart attack patients by reducing treatment time during the busiest peak seasons. Faster intervention remains a top priority during Ramadan and Hajj when the Grand Mosque hosts millions of visitors from abroad.

This center enhances integration within the regional healthcare network by receiving emergency cases from the Saudi Red Crescent Authority’s teams. Additionally, the facility accepts urgent referrals from healthcare centers within the Grand Mosque area and three other nearby medical stations. This collaborative approach ensures that every visitor to the holy site remains within reach of world-class cardiac medical assistance.
