KSRelief distributes food aid in Somalia
King Salman Relief Center (KSrelief) began distributing food baskets to those affected by drought in the Somali regions.
The center is trying to limit the effects of the drought, which is almost turning into a deadly famine, according to Somali officials.
Youssef bin Bakheet, director of KSrelief in Africa, said that the food baskets consist of basic materials such as rice, flour, dates, and others.
It amounts to more than 500 thousand tons, benefiting more than half a million people.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabiah, the center’s advisor, inaugurated the second phase, Monday, from Riyadh to reduce the effects of drought in Somalia.
Youssef added that the center, in cooperation with the local authorities, is keen to speed up the distribution process and deliver it to the beneficiaries.
He pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Somalia is deteriorating more and more, and that the displacement process is continuing strongly.
It is noteworthy that drought in Somalia negatively affected the lives of 7.8 million people, equivalent to half of the country’s population.
