KSA to Introduce Technology that Shortens Travel Time from Jeddah to Mecca in 5 Minutes

Virgin Hyperloop has announced a new technology that significantly reduces travel time.

According to Virgin Hyperloop, residents of Jeddah would be able to travel to Mecca or vice versa in 5 minutes in the future. Travelers from Jeddah to Riyadh can arrive in less than an hour.

The company revealed that its advanced Hyperloop technology can transport passengers comfortably, safely, and quietly, at speeds of up to 1,078 kilometers per hour, through passenger compartments (capsules) at high speed through electric propulsion.

The CEO of DP World, E Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, stated that the “Hyperloop” technology, which can carry passengers at breakneck speeds, might be a reality before 2030, with Saudi Arabia or India being the first countries to do so.

The name of the Kingdom was associated with this new technology, as the Ministry of Transport signed a contract with the company in early 2020, for a preliminary study on the use of Hyperloop technology in the field of transporting passengers and goods in the Kingdom.

Virgin Hyperloop is developing a transportation system that will be able to move passenger or cargo capsules at speeds of over 1,000 km/h, which is three times faster than high-speed rail and 10 times faster than conventional rail.

Starting in 2020, the company has raised more than $400 million from investors, including DP World.
