United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia lead Arab countries in the 2023 Government AI Readiness Index. UAE ranked 18th and KSA ranked 29th among 193 countries.
AI in Labour Market
The President of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), Abdullah bin Sharaf Alghamdi, highlighted the significant impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the labor market, reported the Saudi Press Agency. AI is set to create an impressive 69 million jobs over the next five years, according to a recent report by the World Economic Forum.
AI in Today’s Workforce
During the first global labour market conference, Alghamdi emphasized AI’s role in enhancing current human jobs rather than replacing them. This aligns with a study by the International Labour Organization.
Global AI Competition for Youth
The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) hosted a significant global AI competition for youth. The World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY) was set for December 2-3, 2023, in Thuwal, Jeddah.
Artificial Intelligence Youth Competition: Massive Participation
Over 18,000 students from around the world, including Saudi Arabia, participated. The competition, aligned with the 39 participating countries, showcases Saudi Arabia’s commitment to AI.
Vision 2030: Cultivating Tech Savvy Youth
This initiative also aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at nurturing a technologically advanced Saudi generation. Spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the vision also seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a global tech hub.

Through this competition, SDAIA and KAUST are contributing to Saudi Arabia’s goal of becoming a global technology center, focusing on advanced technologies and AI. This initiative is a significant step towards achieving the highest levels of human development in the Kingdom.
