
The College of Architecture and Planning at King Abdulaziz University has won the award for the Best Architectural Graduation Project in the Middle East for 2024 from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for the project titled A Psychological Healing Resort in the Mountains of Bani Malik, Southern Saudi Arabia, designed by student Muhannad bin Bandar Al-Malki.
The project by Al-Malki was selected as the best graduation project in the Middle East for 2024 after undergoing rigorous evaluation and judging criteria by jurors from some of the world’s leading architectural firms.
Regarding the details of the winning project, the student chose it to address the urgent need for mental health care, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030’s focus on enhancing the quality of life. Moreover, the project aims to create serene spaces to escape the pressures of daily life, rest, and rejuvenate mental energy.

It is noteworthy that the American Institute of Architects is one of the most prominent architectural organizations globally, with significant influence in the field. Founded in 1857 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., the institute has around 300 local and international chapters.
