 Ahmad Al Shugairi, a prominent Saudi media figure and activist, is widely recognized for his influential work in the Arab world, particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Born on June 6, 1973, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Al Shugairi has made significant contributions through various media ventures. After completing his high school education in Jeddah, he moved to the United States.

He obtained a B.A. in Management Systems and an MBA from California State University-Long Beach.

Career Beginnings, Media Impact

He returned to Saudi Arabia in 1996 and began working in his father’s business. Al Shugairi’s career in media began in 2002 with TV programs like “Yalla ya Shabab” and “A Travel with Sheikh Hamza Yusuf” on MBC.

His most renowned work is the TV show “Khawatir”, aired during Ramadan from 2005 to 2015. The show  highlighted ways Saudi Arabia could achieve its potential through investment in science and youth.

Literary Contributions, Recognitions

Al Shugairi has also made notable contributions through his publications, including the “Khawatir Books”, “Khawatir from Japan“, “My Trip with Gandhi”, and “Forty”, a book about his top 40 favorite things. His work has earned him significant recognition, including being named the most influential figure in the Arab world by Twenty Youth magazine in Emirates.

He has also won awards such as the Best Youth Media Personality in the Third Youth Media Forum in Jordan.

Return to Television with “Seen”

In 2021, Al Shugairi returned to television with his new show “Seen“, which marks his return after a seven-year break. “Seen” continues the legacy of “Khawatir”, focusing on Saudi Arabia’s rapid transformation as part of its Vision 2030. The show blends wit, dry humor, and hard facts to explore various aspects of Saudi Arabia’s progress, including digital transformation.

Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation is an integral part of its Vision 2030. It aims to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues.

This transformation includes the implementation of a data-driven government, bringing all public services under a single digital platform. The progress in this domain is evident in the establishment of entities like the Digital Government Authority and Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA).

The country has introduced over 30 cloud services, established numerous data centers, and successfully implemented various digital policies. This digital transformation will contribute significantly to the GDP, with the artificial intelligence sector alone projected to contribute 12.4 percent by 2030.
