Jeddah Historic District Boasts over 2.5 Million Visitors during Ramadan

The Jeddah Historic District has received over 2.5 million visitors during the month of Ramadan, through the successful implementation of its services and crowd management plans, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The District, also known as Al-Balad, has become a model for sustainable practices, urban development, and efficient management to create a secure, well-organized and easy-to-navigate environment.

The smooth operation during Ramadan can be attributed to an effective facilities management and crowd control strategy.

A devoted team of more than 830 employees worked over 250,000 hours during Ramadan to maintain a clean and welcoming environment for visitors.

For that purpose, they used over 600 cleaning machines and tools, in addition to more than 16,000 liters of eco-friendly chemicals.

Hygiene measures were extended to the District’s public restrooms, which witnessed a daily average of 5,000 users, and where water consumption had to be carefully managed.

Waste management was given priority, as over 1,900 tons of waste were collected and treated, including 70 tons of cardboard boxes and 380,000 waste bags. This impressive accomplishment was achieved through more than 550 waste transfer operations to designated landfills.

In terms of safety, the Jeddah Historic District was guarded by more than 1,000 security personnel, supported by 8 rapid response teams and 6 ambulances.

To avoid crowding, 350 crowd-control organizers strategically managed the flow of visitors at 14 locations. To enhance accessibility, 70 golf carts provided transportation to and from parking areas.

The Jeddah Historic District, covering 2.5 million square kilometers and a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site, is undergoing a comprehensive revitalization program. This program focuses on infrastructure improvements, building restoration, and cultural events organization.

The program aims to boost the District as a hub for businesses, cultural projects, and entrepreneurs, while establishing its position as a vivid and inviting destination for all visitors.
