Iran Slams Israeli ‘Savage’ Strikes on Lebanon, Urges UN Action

Iran on Friday strongly condemned what its foreign ministry officially labeled as “savage” Israeli attacks in Lebanon, immediately after its regional arch-foe struck targets belonging to the Tehran-backed Hezbollah movement. Furthermore, the Iranian foreign ministry released an official statement urging the United Nations, the international community, and all regional countries to immediately confront Israel’s aggressive warmongering policies.

The ministry simultaneously offered heartfelt condolences on the martyrdom of Lebanese citizens who were tragically killed during these fierce attacks.

Justifying the Offensive

Israel previously announced on Thursday that it successfully struck a series of Hezbollah targets located deep inside the group’s critical stronghold in southern Lebanon. Significantly, Israel and Lebanon formally signed a comprehensive ceasefire deal in November 2024, a truce which aimed to completely end more than twelve months of mutual hostilities along their shared border.

However, the Israeli government consistently maintains that it absolutely retains the right to preemptively strike any Hezbollah target it judges to represent an immediate or future security threat.

Consequently, Israeli officials justify the latest strikes by claiming they must prevent the Lebanese group from rearming itself immediately. The group suffered major operational losses in recent months, notably including the high-profile assassination of its long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah last year.

According to the Lebanese health ministry’s official report, the bombardments conducted on Thursday ultimately killed one civilian person. This situation escalates tensions further because, as Hezbollah’s key backer, Israeli and US forces also actively targeted Tehran’s own sensitive nuclear sites during a fierce twelve-day conflict in June.
