Iran Declares Expiry of 2015 Nuclear Deal, with Commitment to Diplomacy

Iran announced on Saturday that it is no longer bound by the constraints of its nuclear program following the expiration of its landmark 10-year deal with world powers, according to AFP.

Tehran also declared that despite the fact that the agreement was terminated, it affirmed its “commitment to diplomacy.”

The 2015 deal lifted international sanctions on Tehran in exchange for restrictions on its nuclear activities.

However, the accord had long been in disarray after the United States unilaterally withdrew during President Donald Trump’s first term.

In response, Tehran gradually scaled back its own commitments.

Iran and the US held five rounds of nuclear talks before Israel targeted Iranian nuclear facilities on June 13.

However, these talks faced key stumbling blocks such as uranium enrichment on Iranian soil, a step met with utter rejection by European powers which claimed that Tehran is enriching uranium for unpeaceful purposes.

Iran has denied this accusation and said that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

On September 28, the E3_ Britain, France, and Germany_ reimposed sanctions on Tehran after they claimed that Iran has violated a 2015 deal that aimed at halting it from developing a nuclear weapon.

From now on, “all of the provisions (of the deal), including the restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program and the related mechanisms are considered terminated”, Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement on the day of the pact’s expiration.

The nuclear pact’s “Termination Day” fell on October 18, 2025 —exactly a decade after it was endorsed under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231.

“Iran firmly expresses its commitment to diplomacy,” the ministry added.
