GCC calls for international pressure on Al-Houthi to maintain maritime safety
Nayef Al-Hajraf, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), urged the international community to exert pressure on the Houthi group to allow an international team to assess the oil tank (Safer) as soon as possible in order to avert an impending environmental and economic catastrophe.
This was revealed at Al-meeting Hajraf’s with the Netherlands’ Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Janet Alberda, when they discussed regional events connected to the occurrences in the Gulf of Oman, according to the Gulf Cooperation Council’s General Secretariat.
She went on to say that the two sides agreed on the need of ensuring the security and safety of navigation in the waterways, as well as holding the offender accountable in line with international law to prevent future assaults.
The Gulf Collaboration Council and the Netherlands addressed areas of mutual interest and objectives for cooperation, according to the secretariat, as well as an exchange of ideas on improving, supporting, and growing relations between the two sides to serve common interests.
