
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) today announced the results of the 2024 Research and Development (R&D) Statistics, revealing a 30.4% increase in R&D spending compared with 2023, bringing total expenditures to approximately SAR 29.48 billion.
The business sector led the R&D investment, contributing 40.3% of total spending, closely followed by the government sector at 40.2%, and the higher education sector at 19.5%. The number of employees engaged in research and development also grew by 14.7%, reaching 56,593.
GASTAT emphasized that the annual R&D Statistics are a key economic indicator, providing valuable insights into spending patterns, workforce size, and the number of researchers. This data serves as a crucial reference to inform national policies, foster innovation, and enhance competitiveness across the Kingdom.
