Saudi Arabia is getting ready to observe its Founding Day on February 22, 2025. On this occasion, the Saudi Ministry of Culture announced a new competition, offering a prize pool of SAR 100,000 for the best 50 Founding Day outfits.
The winners of the Founding Day costume competition will get SAR 2,000 each. The competition aims to highlight Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage by promoting its traditional clothing.
To take part in the competition, participants have to post photos that display traditional Saudi outfits on one of the social media platforms using the Founding Day hashtag; fill in the application form on the Culture Ministry’s website; and upload the photo along with the post’s link.
Submissions are open from February 22 to February 28, 2025. Winners will be announced on March 12-14, 2025 and will get notifications via email. Participants must follow the competition guidelines detailed on the Culture Ministry’s website, in addition to adhering to the Founding Day fashion guide.
The Founding Day costume competition offers a unique opportunity for fashion designers, photographers and content creators to share their work with large audiences through social media platforms. It also aims to showcase Saudi Arabia’s traditional attire, highlighting the heritage and creativity of each piece.
The Saudi traditional attire for men includes the ghutra head cover and bisht robe, while the traditional attire for women involves the shayla headscarf and thobe.
The Kingdom celebrates its Founding Day on February 22 of each year, commemorating the establishment of the First Saudi State on the hands of Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1727.
