Following Killing of Samer Abu Daka, ICO Condemns Targeting Journalists
The Islamic Cooperation Organization (ICO) has vehemently condemned the deliberate targeting of journalists and their families in occupied Palestinian territories by the Israeli Occupational Forces (IOF), according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).This comes in the wake of the recent assassination of Al-Jazeera cameraman Samer Abu Daka and the injury of correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh.
A recent Israeli Airstrike on a school in Khan Younis in southern Gaza left Abu Daka killed and Al-Dahdouh injured.
A shrapnel injured Al-Dahdouh’s upper arm.
However, Abu Daka was left to bleed for about 6 hours as the ambulance could not reach him.
Samer Abu Daka, father to 3 boys and a girl, joined Al Jazeera in 2004.
Call for Justice
The ICO renews its call for the International Criminal Court to investigate all crimes that Israel commits against civilians. The attacks also target journalists, and media workers.
Responsibility for Journalist Casualties
The organization also holds Israeli occupation forces responsible for the death of over 80 journalists and the arrest of more than 45 others since the start of ongoing Israeli military aggression in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Efforts to Suppress Media
The organization perceives this as attempts by the occupation forces to prevent journalists from reporting on mass atrocities and documenting war crimes in occupied Palestinian lands.
Urgent Appeal to International Institutions
The ICO also urges international bodies to act immediately to ensure justice and provide necessary protection for civilians. The protection should also include journalists, under international humanitarian law and relevant international agreements.
