First Saudi women’s team in Dakar Rally intends to open registration for girls

The first Saudi women’s team to participate in the Saudi Dakar Rally 2021 has revealed its intention to open registration for Saudi girls to participate and join the team after the rally.

The team’s founders, Dania Akil and Mashael Al-Obaidan, praised the government support represented by the Ministry of Sports and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, expressing their aspirations to bring sponsors to finance the team’s project to achieve its goals and plans.

While hosting the team in the “Saudi Sabah” program, Al-Obaidan expressed her pride in participating in the Saudi Dakar Rally 2021, noting that the long-term work plan of the “Shiro” team opened the way and attracted Saudi girls to fulfill their dreams of entering the car racing field.

Al-Obaidan recalled the beginning of her hobby with this sport since her childhood with her father bringing “tanks”, and “which developed with the passage of days and years.” She expressed her surprise with the girls’ appetite for this sport, adding “since I started putting my photos on the media while I was driving tanks on land or the street, I was bombarded with questions from Saudi and Gulf girls about how to participate, and this, in turn, encourages us to start.”
