The Saudi Fashion Commission and French luxury group Kering have initiated the ‘Kering Generation Award X Saudi Arabia’. This collaboration aims to discover and support innovative startups making a meaningful impact on sustainability within the fashion industry.
The partnership emphasizes sustainable practices while exploring innovative startups within the fashion and commodities sectors. It also establishes award criteria, selection procedures, and development programs for participating startups.
In November 2024, the application process commenced, inviting startups to submit their proposals. Over 100 startups applied, and 20 were selected for a three-day boot camp in Riyadh. The program featured workshops focusing on key performance indicators, goal setting, and pitching skills.
Evaluation Criteria and Final Selection
On January 14, 2025, the shortlisted startups presented their projects in Riyadh. The judges evaluated each based on customer engagement, circular economy, and water protection. The jury will assess the top 10 proposals for innovation, relevance to fashion, and potential societal impact.
The organizers will hold the awards ceremony on 27 January 2025 in Riyadh, where they will announce the top three startups. Winners will participate in a week-long trip to Paris for exclusive mentoring with Kering‘s sustainability teams and present their innovations at the ChangeNOW Summit 2025.
Vision for a Sustainable Future
Fashion Commission CEO Burak Cakmak stated that sustainability is central to the commission’s vision for the industry’s future. He emphasized the award’s role in supporting startups driving innovation in circular fashion and environmental stewardship.
Cakmak added that the initiative reflects the commission’s dedication to advancing solutions for current challenges and fostering a more sustainable fashion industry.
This collaborative effort underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in the global fashion landscape while championing sustainability and innovation.
