Corgis Dash for Glory at International Race in Lithuania

More than 100 teams from across Europe gathered in Lithuania’s capital this weekend for a spirited showcase of short legs and high energy, as Welsh corgis competed in the annual Corgi Race Vilnius.

The event drew participants from countries including Poland, Germany, Austria, Latvia, and Italy, all eager to prove that the breed—often associated with British royalty-is just as adept on the racetrack as in the palace.

Thousands of spectators filled Vilnius’ largest park on Saturday to cheer on the pint-sized competitors in a variety of challenges: solo sprints, a “mightiest bark” contest, team relays, and a costume competition that stole the show.

Festivities concluded on Sunday with a “World Corgi Meetup,” linking corgi communities in the U.S., Ireland, and Poland via live video, creating a global moment of canine camaraderie.

“This brings so much joy-it’s exactly what people need right now,” said Janina Stoniene, a retired teacher attending with her three grandchildren.

The children were particularly taken with the costume parade, where dogs appeared dressed as everything from superheroes to airplanes.

Top honors went to Amigo, a corgi clad in a factory-themed outfit complete with miniature chimneys and the words “Fur Factory” emblazoned on the side.
