Saudi Foreign Minister HRH Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that the resumption of relations with Iran comes from the Kingdom’s vision based on the preference for dialogue, adding that the one destiny of the region’s countries makes it necessary to build a model of stability.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan: “The resumption of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran comes from the Kingdom’s vision based on favoring political solutions and dialogue”.
“The countries of the region have one destiny and common denominators, which make it necessary for us to share together to build a model of prosperity and stability for our peoples to enjoy,” he added.
This comes after Saudi Arabia and Iran announced that they had reached an agreement to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies and representations within a maximum period of two months.
A joint statement between Saudi Arabia, Iran, and China said that the agreement, reached in Beijing, includes the Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers holding a meeting to activate these steps, arrange the exchange of ambassadors, and discuss ways to strengthen relations between them.
The tripartite statement, published by the Saudi Press Agency, added that Tehran and Riyadh also agreed to activate the security cooperation agreement between them signed in 2001, and the general consensus for cooperation in the field of economy, trade, investment, technology, science, culture, sports and youth signed in 1998.
The joint statement stated that the agreement included Saudi Arabia and Iran’s affirmation of “respecting the sovereignty of states and not interfering in their internal affairs.”
