Al Nassr Snatch Late Goal to Secure Dramatic Draw Against Al Ahli

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr managed a dramatic late equalizer against Al Ahli, salvaging a 1-1 draw in the third round of the Saudi Pro League clash at Al-Awwal Park on Friday. Bassam Al Hurayji’s own goal in stoppage time helped Al Nassr snatch a point after Franck Kessie’s superb strike put Al Ahli ahead.

Ronaldo Honored Before the Match

Before the match, Al Nassr fans honored Ronaldo’s remarkable career with a tifo celebrating his 900 career goals. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was presented with a special “GOAT” jersey, commemorating his latest achievement. Despite the touching tribute, Ronaldo struggled to make an impact on the game.

A Lackluster First Half

The first half proved uneventful as both teams struggled to create clear chances. Ronaldo’s best opportunity came from a free-kick that sailed over the bar. Marcelo Brozovic also aimed for goal but had his shot blocked by Al Ahli’s Edouard Mendy. Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino nearly put Al Ahli ahead with a curling strike, requiring a spectacular save from Al Nassr’s Bento.

Kessie Shines as Toney Debuts

Al Ahli’s Franck Kessie opened the scoring in the 57th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the box. The former Barcelona midfielder linked up well with debutant Ivan Toney, who joined Al Ahli from Brentford for £40 million. Toney played the full 90 minutes alongside teammates Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, and Edouard Mendy.

Late Drama Seals Draw

Al Nassr pushed for an equalizer throughout the second half but found Al Ahli’s defense hard to break. A missed opportunity by Anderson Talisca nearly cost them the game. However, in the dying moments, a cross from Sultan Al Ghannam deflected off Bassam Al Hurayji, resulting in an own goal that handed Al Nassr a point.

Ronaldo’s Quiet Night

Despite the fanfare before the game, Ronaldo seemed off his usual form, failing to score or assist. His best chance came from a free-kick that sailed over the bar. The Portuguese star, fresh from international duty, looked sluggish, unable to add to his career tally. Ronaldo’s frustration was evident as his teammates Sadio Mane and Talisca also failed to provide much-needed support.

Looking Ahead

With this draw, Al-Nassr dropped to sixth in the league standings, while Al-Ahli fell to ninth.

Both teams will be eager to build upon this match. Al Nassr will face Al Ettifaq while Al Ahli takes on Damac in their next outings. Despite the lack of victory, Al Nassr’s late equaliser keeps them in the mix for the title, just behind Al-Hilal, who holds a game in hand.
