
Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko stressed the growing significance of boosting economic ties with Saudi Arabia and attracting Saudi investment to the Japanese capital ahead of her upcoming trip to the Middle East later this month, according to Arab News.
“We are currently in the midst of attracting investors to Saudi Arabia, a country that is enthusiastic about investing, so I think it is extremely valuable to promote Tokyo there,” Yuriko said.
Koike also highlighted Riyadh’s Future Cities Initiative, underscoring that it has captured notable international attention for its ability to bring together investors, innovators, and financial strategists under one umbrella.
“To give you an idea, people like Elon Musk have attended this event,” she said. “And it attracts roughly 5,000 people, making it a sort of ‘Davos in the desert.’ At these events, I hope to firmly promote Tokyo’s financial market and engage in investor relations.”
In addition to efforts to strengthen business collaboration, Koike’s agenda also features the advancement Japan’s renowned soft power, such as anime and manga.
Koike will also share the stage with Takahashi Yoichi, the creator of Captain Tsubasa—known across the Middle East as Captain Majid.
She noted that Japan’s anime industry and its related content are estimated to have an economic impact of around 8 trillion yen.
“I hope to promote Tokyo’s initiatives and appeal, and foster cooperation between cities,” she added.
Koike will also carry out business-matching opportunities for Tokyo-based small and medium-sized enterprises and startups in Riyadh and Kuwait, while highlighting the capital’s advanced technologies to local government officials and business leaders.
