The US President, Donald Trump, has declared that the war in Gaza “is over,” and the rebuilding phase has begun.
Addressing world leaders at Sharm Al-Sheikh, Trump said: “The war in Gaza is over… civilians are returning to their homes. The hostages are reuniting.”
Trump thanked the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi; Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman; Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani; and the Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for their diplomatic efforts to achieve the peace agreement in Gaza.
He highlighted the next steps in Gaza. “Now the rebuilding begins. Rebuilding is maybe going to be the easiest part. I think we’ve done a lot of the hardest part because the rest comes together. We all know how to rebuild, and we know how to build better than anybody in the world,” Trump noted.
The US President pointed to the creation of a new police force in Gaza and the demilitarization of the Strip. “We’ve also agreed that Gaza’s reconstruction requires that it be demilitarized and that a new, honest civilian police force must be allowed to create a safe condition for the people in Gaza,” he noted.
Trump’s remarks came during the Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Summit, which is taking place in Egypt with the participation of leaders from more than 30 countries.
The summit saw Al-Sisi, Trump, Emir Tamim and Erdogan signing the Gaza peace agreement document, which Trump called a “historic agreement.”
