Egypt’s Al-Sisi Meets US Envoys, Invites Trump for Gaza Agreement Signing

The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, met on Thursday with the US Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump, Jared Kushner, at Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.

In a statement, the Egyptian Presidency’s spokesperson, Mohamed El-Shennawy, said that Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, Major General Hassan Rashad, and US Ambassador in Cairo, Herro Mustafa, attended the meeting.

The meeting came few hours after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel in Gaza. It followed days of indirect negotiations in Sharm Al-Sheikh, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the US and Türkiye, with Witkoff and Kushner representing Trump.

During the meeting, Al-Sisi welcomed the ceasefire agreement, praising Trump’s efforts and hoping that the agreement would be signed as soon as possible with the attendance of the US President.

However, Al-Sisi stressed the urgency to immediately implement the ceasefire in Gaza, without waiting for the formal signing of the agreement.

Moreover, the Egyptian President reaffirmed that Cairo looks forward to continuing cooperation with the US to implement the agreement based on Trump’s peace plan.

He also underscored Egypt’s commitment to its partnership with the US to advance the Middle East’s peace process, which Egypt initiated and the US has supported since the 1970s.

Al-Sisi praised the US, Qatari and Turkish mediators for supporting Egypt’s efforts in Sharm Al-Sheikh talks, affirming that Egypt will continue to work responsibly with them to ensure the implementation of the agreed terms, including the ceasefire, the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages and prisoners.

For their part, Witkoff and Kushner extended Trump’s gratitude for Cairo’s role in reaching the Gaza agreement, emphasizing the strategic depth of US-Egyptian ties. They also reiterated Trump’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts in ending the war and restoring stability in the region.
