Saudi Arabia Welcomes Egypt-Mediated Agreement between Iran, IAEA

Saudi Arabia has welcomed the agreement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resume cooperation, with the mediation of Egypt, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

In a statement on Wednesday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that the Kingdom welcomed the signing of an agreement to resume cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, under the auspices of Egypt.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of building trust, pursuing diplomatic solutions, and bolstering cooperation with the IAEA, the statement noted.

On Tuesday, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, and the IAEA’s Director-General, Rafael Grossi, signed an agreement to resume technical cooperation, following a high-level meeting hosted by the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, in Cairo.

According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tamim Khalaf, the Modalities Agreement to resume cooperation between Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog came after intensive diplomatic efforts by Egypt to de-escalate tensions and pave the way for resuming nuclear negotiations between both sides.

He added that the negotiation track, launched in June 2025 with Egypt’s mediation, culminated in the signing of an agreement to resume cooperation, agree on practical steps to inspect Iranian nuclear facilities, and enhance transparency measures.

Khalaf also noted that the agreement marks a new practical framework to restore trust between Iran and the IAEA and a starting point toward a new phase in ties between both sides to address technical concerns and enhance regional and international security and stability.

In July 2025, Iran formally suspended cooperation with the IAEA in response to the 12-day war with Israel, accusing the UN nuclear watchdog of providing a justification for Israel’s attack, as it came a day after the agency declared Tehran in breach of its nuclear obligations.
