Trump Vows to “Shoot Down” Venezuelan Planes Threatening US Forces

President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on Friday, stating that Venezuelan planes will be “shot down” if they jeopardize the safety of the United States. This declaration follows recent tensions between Washington and Caracas, particularly after a US military operation targeting a vessel linked to the Venezuelan-associated Tren de Aragua gang.

The Pentagon reported that two Venezuelan military aircraft approached a US Navy vessel in international waters. Officials labeled this action as “highly provocative” and cautioned the Maduro regime against interfering with US counter-narcotics and counterterrorism operations in the region. This incident raises concerns about potential military escalation and the legal boundaries of US actions against designated “narco-terrorist” groups.

Trump’s Remarks on Venezuelan Aircraft

During a press briefing in the Oval Office, Trump addressed questions regarding the likelihood of Venezuelan planes approaching US Navy vessels again, stating, “Well, I would say they’re gonna be in trouble.” He acknowledged the incident but downplayed its severity, saying, “It wasn’t really over, not like they described.”

Trump continued, “If they fly in a dangerous position, I would say that you or your captains can make the decision as to what they want to do.” When pressed about how close the planes came, he responded, “Well, I don’t want to talk about that. But if they do put us in a dangerous position, they’ll be shot down.”

As tensions escalate between the US and Venezuela, the potential for military confrontation looms large. Trump’s firm stance signals a willingness to take decisive action if US safety is threatened. The international community will be watching closely as these developments unfold.
