Saudi Minister of Economy in Talks with Brazilian FM ahead of G20 Brazil Summit

The Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim met today with the Brazilian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, as part of the G20 Development Ministerial Meeting in Brasilia, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Al-Ibrahim and Vieira discussed the Saudi-Brazilian relations and how to boost the bilateral relations in various fields such as infrastructure, renewable energy and agribusiness.

Both ministers also delved into the agenda of Brazil’s G20 presidency.

In June, Saudi Arabia participated in the 3rd Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from June 27 to 28, on the sidelines of G20 Brazil Summit.

The Deputy Governor of the General Authority of Foreign Trade (GAFT) for International Organizations and Agreements, Fareed bin Saeed Al-Asaly, headed the Saudi delegation that participated in numerous meetings during the flagship event.

The meeting discussed various topics of common interest such as:

  • Trade and sustainable development
  • Women’s participation in international trade
  • Sustainable development and investment agreements
  • Reforming the World Trade Organization by strengthening the multilateral trading system

Furthermore, the meeting featured a significant workshop designed to deeply investigate the opportunities and challenges to achieve the proper integration between trade and sustainable development goals.

2024 G20 Rio de Janeiro Summit

The G20 Leaders’ Summit will take place on November 18 and 19, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro.

The summit will bring together the leaders of the 19 member countries, the African Union and the European Union.

The Brazilian presidency officially commenced on 1 December 2023 under the theme of “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”.

The summit has selected three main agenda priorities, as follows:

  • Social inclusion and fight against hunger
  • Energy transition and sustainable development in its social, economic and environmental aspects
  • Reform of the global governance institutions

Moreover, the summit will tackle the comprehensive reform of global institutions, such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization.
