King Salman Orders Name Change for Saudi Housing Ministry

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued on Sunday a royal order to change the name of the Saudi Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Under the royal order, the Ministry’s name has become the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing.

On this occasion, the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Majed bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, expressed his gratitude to King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman. Al-Hogail stressed that the name change is a progressive step that reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to developing an advanced urban environment in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

Furthermore, this step enhances the performance of the Ministry and its affiliated municipalities to achieve sustainable urban development plans, he added. It also aims to enable municipalities contribution to improving the quality of life in cities and develop the housing sector to deliver innovative services for beneficiaries.

The Saudi Minister said that housing and municipalities are key sectors that directly impact the life of citizens. Hence, Vision 2030 has paid special attention to those sectors in its plans and programs. Given this, Al-Hogail underscored that the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing is working to raise the quality of services provided to citizens according to the best international practices and experiences.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs was established by royal order in 1975. It is responsible for urban planning for cities and developing municipal and rural areas. The Ministry also handles several tasks, including managing municipal services to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

In 2020, a royal order merged the Ministry of Housing into the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to become the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing.
