Organization of Islamic Cooperation, King Salman Complex Celebrate World Arabic Language Day

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in collaboration with the King Salman International Complex for the Arabic Language, celebrated today in Jeddah the World Arabic Language Day. It falls on December 18 each year.

It is under the slogan “Arabic: Language of Poetry and Arts.” The event was held under the patronage of  Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, the Minister of Culture at the headquarters of the Organization’s General Secretariat.

Importance of Arabic Language

 

The Secretary-General of the Organization, Hussein Ibrahim Taha stated in a speech delivered on this occasion the importance of Arabic Language.

“The Arabic language is the language of the Quran. It is an integral part of worship and prayer in Islam, in addition to being one of the oldest, most spoken, widespread, and utilized languages in the world,” said Taha.

Decision to Support Arabic Language

 

Taha added that, in cooperation with and through the initiative of the Kingdom, the Organization approved a ministerial decision on World Arabic Language Day. The approval came during the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers. It was held in March last year in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The decision aims to support its presence in regional and international forums. He expressed gratitude to the Kingdom for its efforts in supporting the Organization.

The secretary general also emphasized that the celebration initiative reflects the openness of the Organization’s General Secretariat to contributors in the Kingdom and member countries.

He also noted that the collaboration between the Organization and the Complex resulted in many programs and activities last year. These programs include training courses for numerous beneficiaries from member countries.
