The Social Development Bank has strengthened its international standing after receiving the WSBI-ESBG SDG Award 2026, which recognizes its efforts to promote economic growth, expand financial inclusion and advance sustainable development.
A Second Consecutive Global Recognition
The recognition, presented to CEO Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Hamidi during the World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI) meetings in Lima, Peru, reflects the growing international recognition of Saudi Arabia’s development approach, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Al-Hamidi said the achievement stands as a testament to the model’s capacity to deliver sustainable impact and reaffirms the bank’s commitment to developing innovative initiatives and solutions.
Securing the award for the second consecutive year underscores the bank’s continued role in expanding economic opportunities through financing products and non-financial services designed to empower individuals, support families and help entrepreneurs develop their businesses.
These efforts contribute to broader economic and social development objectives under Saudi Vision 2030.
How Does the Bank Support Economic Growth?
The Social Development Bank views social development as a fundamental pillar of national progress, focusing on empowering citizens through accessible financing products as well as development programmes.
Since its establishment, the bank has undergone significant transformation, evolving into one of the Kingdom’s key development institutions and an active contributor to economic and social development.
Notably, its work reflects the importance placed on accessible development finance, both in helping citizens improve their livelihoods and in supporting small and emerging businesses as contributors to the national economy.
Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals
The bank’s development agenda extends across several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with initiatives aimed at boosting financial inclusion, promoting equal opportunities and supporting innovation and infrastructure.
Its programmes also seek to create economic opportunities, strengthen individual financial independence and improve social welfare, particularly among low-income groups and persons with disabilities.
By empowering women, addressing inequality and expanding access to sustainable services across cities and provinces, the bank is also working to strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors to advance its development objectives.
The bank continues to build strategic partnerships with government entities, private-sector companies and international organizations to enhance its social responsibility initiatives, improve its financial and social programmes, and extend their impact across a wider community.
