As Saudi Arabia moves boldly to become a global logistics hub, modernizing logistics infrastructure is taking center stage.
The inauguration of the world’s largest truck marshalling area at Jeddah Islamic Port marks a remarkable milestone in the Kingdom’s logistics transformation.
By combining record-breaking infrastructure with over SR1 billion ($266.9 million), new investment deals focus on solidifying port operations and supply chain efficiency.
How the Marshalling Area Enhances Port Operations
Covering one million square meters, the marshalling area emerges as the first transit point for trucks bound for Jeddah Islamic Port before they proceed to Gates 4-9. The marshalling area will make a real difference in easing congestion, elevating operational capacity, and increasing the efficiency of cargo movement through one of the Kingdom’s busiest maritime gateways.
Speaking to Al-Eqtisadiah, Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Saleh Al-Jasser, noted that the Kingdom has adapted to rapid changes in international maritime traffic by redirecting trade toward its western coast, highlighting that the new truck area at the port supports the efficiency of logistics operations and trade movement.
Beyond operational improvements, Saudi Arabia’s logistics transformation has significantly enhanced the Kingdom’s ability to effectively respond to external challenges. Al-Jasser noted that recent crises have shown the resilience of the country’s infrastructure and its logistics system.
Global Logistics Leaders Expand in Saudi Arabia
Beyond the truck marshalling area, the latest partnerships signal a broader expansion of Saudi Arabia’s logistics ecosystem. According to Al-Jasser, the new agreements increase the number of logistics zones across the Kingdom’s ports to 34, representing private-sector investments totaling SR15 billion.
Among the projects unveiled are a logistics center designed to support commercial activities and maritime services, along with an integrated hub dedicated to facilitating import and export operations and broadening logistics services.
The expansion of Maersk’s logistics zone at Jeddah Islamic Port comes at the forefront of the latest the flagship developments.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has gained the international investor confidence with GD Logistics deciding to launch its largest investment outside China through two projects at Jeddah Islamic Port and the Al-Khumrah logistics area.

A Public-Private Model for Logistics Growth
The agreements were also supported by a series of contracts signed with five leading Saudi companies to establish additional logistics zones, underscoring the Kingdom’s strategy of thoughtfully blending foreign investment with strong private-sector participation to advance its logistics ecosystem.
According to Al-Jasser, the new truck marshalling area has been designed as a coordinated logistics hub that brings together transport authorities, security agencies, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, as well as private-sector operators under one umbrella. This integrated framework seeks to streamline truck movements, improve the efficiency of logistics operations, and create a safer, more organized environment for drivers.
Al-Jasser highlighted that the latest developments also spotlight the cumulative impact of a wide range of reforms that have reshaped Saudi Arabia’s logistics sector in recent years. These ongoing reforms are improving supply chain resilience, boosting logistics services, and fostering the Kingdom responses to rapid shifts in the global trading environment.
Unlocking the Next Phase of Saudi Logistics
Mawani President Suleiman Al-Mazroua said the new logistics centers are poised to achieve greater value from goods and services moving through Saudi ports, supporting not only domestic markets but also economies across the Red Sea region.
Al-Mazroua also said Saudi Arabia’s push to transform its ports into fully integrated logistics hubs that feature several services for both cargo and shipping, far beyond their traditional role as transit points.
Looking ahead, Al-Mazroua said that further investments are planned for the Al-Khumrah area, where work is also underway to develop a new economic zone. This move will further expand the Kingdom’s logistics ecosystem and unleash new horizons and investment opportunities for businesses operating across trade, manufacturing, and distribution.
