Saudi Arabia Denounces Iran’s Attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain Amid Hormuz Crisis

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoF) issued its strongest condemnation yet of Iran’s attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain on Sunday, as the latest exchange of strikes between Tehran and Washington pushed a fragile regional ceasefire to breaking point.

In a statement, the MOF voiced the Kingdom’s “strongest condemnation of the brutal Iranian aggression and the flagrant violation of sovereignty of Bahrain and Kuwait,” describing the attacks as a violation of international law and the UN Charter that undermines efforts to restore regional security.

Furthermore, the statement affirmed full Saudi solidarity with both nations and support for any measures they take to defend their sovereignty.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the attacks, saying it launched ballistic missiles and drones at the US Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait and the US Fifth Naval Fleet at Port Salman in Bahrain, framing them as retaliation for US strikes on five Iranian coastal targets the previous day. Authorities in both countries confirmed that all projectiles were intercepted without casualties.

Ceasefire Under Severe Strain

The strikes directly threaten a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding signed by the US and Iran on 17 June, which extended a ceasefire and aims to restore free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, the IRGC warned that further US action would result in the complete halt of all diplomatic processes.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged all parties to adhere to the memorandum of understanding and not allow it to deviate from its course.

Consequently, the UAE, Jordan, and Oman also condemned the attacks, while Qatar joined Saudi Arabia in calling for restraint and de-escalation.
