Saudi Arabia Condemns Drone Attack Near UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Plant

Saudi Arabia has strongly denounced a drone attack targeting an electricity generator in the United Arab Emirates outside the perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region, according to Arab News.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry described the attack as a threat to regional security and stability, emphasizing the Kingdom’s solidarity with the UAE and its support for all Emirati measures aimed at safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.

On Sunday, the UAE announced that authorities swiftly responded to a fire that erupted in an electrical generator situated outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

The fire was successfully contained without any reported causalities, while officials confirmed that radiological safety levels remained entirely unaffected.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) emphasized that the fire had no impact on the safety of the plant or the operational readiness of its core systems, noting that all units at the facility are functioning normally.

The UAE Ministry of Defense announced that investigations are underway to determine the exact source of the attacks, indicating that additional details would be released following the conclusion of the inquiry.

The foreign ministries of Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, also denounced the attack.

Kuwait condemned the targeting of peaceful nuclear energy facilities, labeling it as a blatant breach of international law and warning that such attacks threaten civilian lives, environmental safety and regional security.

Bahrain also reiterated its full solidarity with the UAE and lauded Abu Dhabi’s air defense forces for swiftly addressing the threat.
