Henna Adorns Hands of Moroccan Women Pilgrims on Their Way to Makkah

As the Hajj season approaches, Moroccan traditions come to life in meaningful ways. One of the most cherished customs is the application of henna for women preparing to embark on the sacred journey. At Rabat-Salé International Airport, female pilgrims participating in the Makkah Route Initiative receive intricate henna designs before departing, symbolizing joy, celebration, and spiritual readiness.

Inside the lounge dedicated to the initiative, women have their hands decorated with henna while completing travel procedures. This takes place within a streamlined digital system designed to simplify and organize every stage of the pilgrims’ journey, starting from departure.

Launched in 2017, the initiative is overseen by the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with various government entities, with stc serving as the digital partner. To date, it has supported more than 1.25 million pilgrims in facilitating their travel experience.
