2026 World Cup Unveils Triple Opening Ceremonies Featuring Global Music Stars

FIFA will stage three separate opening ceremonies for the 2026 World Cup, one in each host nation, featuring a galaxy of global music talent. The world governing body confirmed on Friday that Mexico, the United States and Canada will each host their own celebration, marking an unprecedented start to the tournament.

Mexico opens proceedings on 11 June, 90 minutes before the tournament’s first match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium (formerly Azteca Stadium). Colombian superstar J Balvin, multi-Grammy-winning Mexican rock band Maná, singer Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Lila Downs, Tyla and Los Angeles Azules will all perform. “The world will share this moment, and that is how this tournament will begin,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

Toronto and Los Angeles Follow Within 24 Hours

Canada hosts its ceremony on 12 June in Toronto ahead of their opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Elyanna, Jessie Reyez and Nora Fatehi headline a lineup that organisers say will take fans on “a journey across Canada from coast to coast.”

Later that same day, the United States face Paraguay in Los Angeles in what promises to be a landmark cultural moment. Katy Perry, who headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2015, tops the bill alongside rapper Future, K-pop star Lisa of Blackpink, Brazilian artist Anitta, Rema and Tyla, with further names still to come. “The lineup reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas,” Infantino said.

Furthermore, Venezuelan reggaeton artist Danny Ocean and Bangladeshi-American DJ Sanjoy round out the broader roster of performers. Infantino summed up the vision clearly, “Starting with Mexico City and continuing with Toronto and Los Angeles, these ceremonies will bring together music, culture and football, a powerful way to begin a truly global celebration.” Organisers urge fans to arrive early, as they will play an active role in each show.
